Armcon Limited was founded in 1992 by Robert Armstrong and introduced the volumetric concrete mixer to the UK market. The company is synonymous with market leading products and world class aftermarket support and has grown from strength to strength since its inception.
The decision to transition to an employee-owned business was taken after a long legal case with their American supplier which resulted in the US court ruling in Armcon’s favour. Mr Armstrong commented “With the court decision going our way and Armcon now an independent supplier of British made volumetric mixers I was keen to protect the company’s legacy and propel it into a new independent era where International markets could be explored. I have no doubts that in the new MD Sean Warburton and with the experienced team in place, that the future is very bright for the Armcon business.”
When asked what the transition meant to staff, long serving employee Fred Monaghan said “This is a really exciting opportunity for myself and my colleagues. I really feel part of something now, and I’m sure it will show in our work. The team are really excited to showcase our new Duralight mixer and to give our customers a level of service not yet seen in the Volumetric and precast business”.
Fellow employee Sue Houghton also commented “This is a fantastic start to 2021 for us all. Everyone has contributed to our future vision and we are all excited by our plans to grow sales, profit and headcount this year whilst ensuring that Armcon remains a great place to work”.
Sean Warburton the new Managing Director commented “I would like to go on record as thanking Robert for the wonderful opportunity he has given both myself and the staff and I look forward to working with the staff to take the business on to the next stage of the journey. I would also like to wish Robert a very happy and long retirement”.
By widening ownership of the business to its employees Armcon Limited is securing the future of the business, including its ethos, values and employees, while rooting itself locally for the longer term to the benefit of the communities which it serves.
